The Mountains of San Juan County are rapidly changing colors with the cooler evening temperatures, brilliant oranges, reds and yellows giving it a calico coat. The days are still warm staying in the high 70's giving you some beautiful weather to get out there and enjoy some outdoor activities.
We have some great events still going on. The Blanding and Monticello Farmers Markets are in full swing with an abundance of vegetables and fruits. Visit Monticello's on Thursday night and Blanding's on Saturday Morning.
The San Juan Record will be hosting its 3rd Annual Newspaper Rock 10 K Run on Oct. 9. while the Bluff Arts Festival will be held the weekend of Oct 22 - 24. Come out and enjoy the fun!!

The rain has it looking like June here in San Juan County. The grass is greener than ever. You can sense fall in the morning air, the sunflowers in full bloom, fresh cut hay and wheat heads bent low waiting to be harvested. Great weather for getting outside. Come. Enjoy.

Summer is finally here.
Summer finally made it to San Juan County! Not really a break in time between the cold weather and the hot but we will take the warmth. Pack your lunch and get out there. Don't forget the sunblock, you will burn quicker in the higher altitude. Enjoy the beauty of San Juan County!

Summer Adventures
Yeah!!! The wind has quit blowing. Now we can get out and enjoy the hills. Wild Rivers is busy already taking rafters down the San Juan River, Abajo Recreation has rental equipment if you need it as well as fishing licenses, Blackhawk is busy with their ATV Tours & shuttle services. That is just a few ideas for the weekend. I'll work on some more.

Mule Riding in Arch Canyon
Arch Canyon was absolutely gorgeous on Saturday. We had the privilege to take a guided mule ride into the canyon. The wild flowers and cactus were blooming everywhere along the canyon walls. I even noticed a few ruins that I hadn't seen before. We had great guides, a tasty lunch and good company. It was an awesome experience that everyone should try! Vacation Ideas!
What I would do if I had two days to enjoy Lake Powell.
I would definitely recommend staying at the Defiance House Lodge 435.684.3032. The rooms are very nice, and the views are natures best. I would also recommend having meals at the Anasazi Restaurant, its casual dining with friendly service, there are no reservations needed. During the warm and peaceful daytimes, renting a power boat at Bullfrog Boat Rentals (435.684.3010) is both fun and exhilarating. Smart boaters always have a map, which are available at all the retail outlets, along with cool shirts and souvenirs. Some of the most fun I had when I first got here was to examine the map, and set out early the next day to see it in person.
Houseboating is also transformative but should be done over 3-7 days to fully relax. The great thing about houseboating is that you can move the entire camp every day if you want, and with 2000 miles of shoreline there is plenty to see. I could go on and on of course, but new visitors should begin by scheduling plenty of time to relax. No rat race going on here, just an abundance of peace and tranquility.
Take care,
K.M.

A Challenge!
My questions to you is, "What did you do on your last vacation to San Juan County"?
Winterfest
Monticello Chamber of Commerce has decided to take advantage of all this great snow! They are having what they hope will turn into an annual event. It will be the first annual Abajo Winterfest and will be held in Monticello on Feb. 18th and 19th. There will be cross country skiing, sledding, and sculpturing competitions. A chilli cook off. Family sledding, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and even some outdoor survival clinics. There is even a homemade sled making competition. Bring the whole family and have a great day with friends.

The Mountains are Changing!
The LaSal and Abajo Mountains are changing their colors again, letting us know it's time to get that fall work done. The reds and yellows of the leaves are vibrant this year, they were missed sorely last year with an early freeze, that turned them to brown overnight. We are enjoying the colors of fall, bring your jacket there is a nip in the air.
